KINTAMPO: NHIA reviews performance with stakeholders

As part of promoting transparency, accountability, accessing gains and losses, the National Health Insurance Authority at all levels of operation engages stakeholders and the public at a forum to review its operations.

The meeting forms part of the scheme’s end of year review meeting at the Kintampo Health Research Centre (KHRC) conference hall.

The District Manager, Mr. Jacob Amoako Adoesom stated that all major stakeholders present have been called to access the work of the National Health Insurance Authority and to amend all shortcomings of the authority, and to help complement the work of the scheme.

Madam Alice Voletor, the Municipal Health Director also thanked all for coming and emphasizes that yearly review is organized to access ourselves and make amendments for the feature.

And she ended by saying that; questions, suggestions, and contributions are expected to come out after all the presentations have been made.

The Regional Operations Manager, Mr. Goerge Oppong Darkowah in his address stated that all the achievements made by NHIA in the previous year including targets set for them and achieving it and with mobile phone registration giving them 6,44000 and they meeting 7,93000 (115%). He said Techiman tops all the districts in the country in terms of performance.

Mr. Oppong Darkoawh added that some logistics have been purchased to enhance productivity in the region including printers among others, while the government is paying some raisers owed to other facilities.

Mr. Amoako presented a power point presentation of the 2019 year review, which highlighted service providers, membership, mobile renewals, revenue mobilization and achievement they made in the municipality and targets archived such as 69,731 were giving as target and 79,189 (113.56%.) was made and in indigents enrolments, 7,027 was giving as target and 11,987(170.58%) was also made etc.

For some years the NHIA at Kintampo have been challenged with no vehicle for scheme operations, copayment by some providers, the inability of some subscribers to renew their membership using their personal phones, no credentialed pharmacy shop in the Municipality and CCC verification Sims being blocked for failing to load airtime by some HCP.

As part of some of the achievements, he said the office witnessed membership mobilization of 113.56%, saw the successful implementation of non-biometric authentication at credentialed provider sites, and successfully implemented mobile renewal processes.

He said the way forward is to collaborate with NIA to use Ghana Card to access health care, to achieve a target of 90,298 active membership in 2020, continue to liaise with social welfare department to increase the registration of the vulnerable and to intensify education on e-renewals through visitation of religious bodies, organized groups, civil society organizations and house to house sensitization.
