Kintampo Municipality records high cases of COVID-19

The Kintampo Municipal Health Directorate at its 2020 Annual Performance Review urged residents to be careful and obey the COVID-19 protocols in order to reduce the rate of infection in the municipality,

The directorate noted that the municipality has recorded high positive cases, making it the leading municipality with positive cases in the Bono East Region, a situation that calls for all hands on deck to curtail the further spread of the disease.

The review was on the theme: “Continuity of quality service delivery in the midst of Covid-19” held at the Kintampo Municipal Assembly Hall.

Mr. James Owusu the Municipal Diseases Control Officer said in case of management, all 195 cases recorded were managed either in their homes or the isolation center; infected males stand at 134(68.71), female infected 61(31.3), children infected 5(2.56%). 166 got recovered and discharged/de-isolated (85%), one (1) person died (this person was brought in seriously sick and passed on before result was ready (0.5% fertility).



There are currently 28 active cases being managed, 25 cases are managed from home, and 3 currently at the isolation center (2) in Kintampo north and 1 in Kintampo south).

The Municipal Health Director, Madam Alice Afuah Vorleto was happy that despite the nationwide pandemic that also affected the Municipality, “our eighteen (18) CHPS compounds, forty-six (46) demarcated CHPS zones, four (4) private facilities, three(3) diagnostic centers, KHRC, NHIS Kintampo Municipality Hospital and Kintampo Health Directorate were able to work productively under the year in review.”

She appealed to stakeholders and the government to help in finding solutions to challenges confronting the health sector in the municipality including the provision of logistics for the CHPS compounds, training more midwives and Physician Assistants for the CHPS, motivation amenities for CHOs, providing additional vehicles and motorbikes for work among others.



Meanwhile, Mr. Sampson Addo from Nkoranza South also presented a report on the health situation and called for action to address the percentage of infants born to HIV-infected mothers who are infected, Percentage of prescription with an antibiotic (public facilities); pre- capita GOG allocation to health in cedi’s (receipts); the prevalence of anemia in pregnant women at 36 weeks of gestation, doctor to population ratio, the proportion of mother who made at least four ANC visits and so on.
