Kintampo North Celebrates World AIDS Day
The Kintampo North Municipality took part in the celebration of this year's World Aids Day, a day set aside to help create awareness about the HIV/AIDS across the globe.

This year’s celebration was on the theme; “Global Solidarity, shared Responsibility.”
Speaking at Dagarti Funeral Grounds where a grand durbar was held to celebrate this occasion, Bono East Regional Health Coordinator of HIV/AIDS, Mr. Michael Mireku Opoku noted that this year’s celebration was aimed at drawing attention to HIV/AIDS to increase awareness and mobilizes various communities to a stronger response to the pandemic.
He said, Covid-19 has come to disrupt people known in a way of life around the world, adding that “it is easy to forget that we have had the HIV/AIDS pandemic with us for over 30 years now.”
In 2019 median HIV prevalence, the median ANC HIV prevalence was 2.0% and number of samples analyses by Bono East Region was 1364 i.e. 5.3% in the country.
He thanked researchers such as the Kintampo Health Research Centre, policy makers, NGOS and all health workers because the infection which was initially thought to be a “death sentence” is now treatable.
Mr. Mireku Opoku concluded by saying that “ the resilience depends on us all and every one of us has a responsibility, a duty to commit to shaded value of respecting the right of everyone to receive health care.”
On his part, the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Michael Sarkodie Baffoe shared his excitement over our commitment of working hard in eliminating AIDS by 2030.
He said we should not relent on the impact it has had on the lives of millions of people around the world.
He encouraged frequent HIV testing and treatment, saying that that was the best way to strengthen efforts to reduce new HIV infections.
Speaking in an interview with the Municipal HIV/AIDS coordinator, Madam Esther Ottah revealed that in Ghana has a prevalence rate of 2% (total = 350.000, adults is 330.000 and children is 20, 000) in the country.
She revealed that the Eastern region in 2019 topped all sixteen regions in Ghana.
She also added that in the Kintampo Municipality, Prevalence is 0.6% (702, 7 people). 2934 tested (those who reported to Health Centers) and 367 positive (2019 annual report). Over 1000 are currently on ART.
