Kintampo Municipal Health Directorate holds mid-year performance review

The Kintampo Municipal Health Directorate has held its Mid-year performance review to help evaluate performance in the mid-year of 2020.

The meeting, which took place at the Kintampo Health Research Conference Hall, brought together all stakeholders in the health sector of the municipality.

Municipal Health Director of the area, Madam Alice Afuah Vorleto emphasized that the exercise was aimed at evaluating “our targets we set from the beginning of the year to see if we are heading towards the right direction.”

She edge all to welcome correction, replacement and whatever direction and comments which would come out of their presentation, adding that the motive behind the review is to see if all target set are heading towards the right direction, or have been achieved.

Various presentations were made on power point to highlight on performance beginning January to June 2020. The Kintampo Health Research Centre (KHRC) also provided highlights on a research study they are conducting on malaria in children among others.

Mr. Eric Tukuu in charge of Human Resource (HR), presented on how important human resource in the health sector was, and also torch on the HR issues at the beginning of the year as under review, such as lack or inadequate staff especially Physician Assistants which is a threat of losing their health center status to CHPs compounds due to the non-availability on them, lack of midwives, lack of logistics and financial resources to attend to staff welfare issues as quickly as possible.

He also added some interventions in HR issues, Resulting in new staffing norm policy, health center categorization, staffing picture (category), summary of staff strength, challenges, recommendations, and some of Human Resource issues problems in his presentation in the Municipality.



Dr. Gaven Apio presented on behalf of the Municipal Hospital on the background information of the facility which he tourches on services provided, highlight on human resources, a brief overview of major concerns at the beginning of the year 2020, workload analysis, 2020 priorities objective 1, objective 2, objective 3, objective 4, top ten OPD morbidities (2019-2020), top ten causes of mortalities which he stated the municipality recorded two (2) maternal mortality (2019-2020), factors contributing to progress or regress, and details on COVID-19 situation in the Municipality as a holding center for patients in the region.

Mr. Josephs Nanga from the Health Information Unit gave details on Human resource, Enhance efficiency in governance and management of the health system, intensify prevention and control of communicable disease and ensure the reduction of new HIV and AIDS/STIs infections, especially among the vulnerable groups, issues and plans at the beginning of the year 2020 under review, improve health service date quality their targets and percentages, key challenges and strategies to address them from July-Dec. 2020, COVID-19 confirm case distribution were males are the top must cases in the Municipality with 59% and female with 41%.

He however noted that “Despite challenges within the service in the municipality, many gains have been made and efforts will be made to sustain the gains and improve on our shortfalls”.



Touching on the NHIA, Mr. Num Abraham Kojo, the Public Relations Officer disclosed that some service providers have started receiving their claims for 2019”. He further touched on membership registration as of January 2020 to June 2020. Mobile renewal in January 2020 to June 2020, active membership compared, their objective, target, achievement shortfall and reasons for the shortfall to be COVID-19 pandemic in the year, he also stated that visit to health care provides came out with some key findings sure as; good records keeping by some facilities, tidy environment at some health care facilities, accurate filling of claims, no visitors books at some facilities, co-payment being practiced at some facilities, etc.

All their targets were successfully achieved, their way forward was to deploy staff to provider sites to solve client complaints, educate subscribers on e-renewals and monitor providers as well, collaborate with municipal assembly to assist with a vehicle for community visitation, intensify radio publicity on mobile renewal in the municipality and so on.
