Fidelity Bank as part of its corporate responsibility decided to come to the aid of the school after one of its staff members at the Wa branch drew the attention of the outfit about the plight of the pupils.

Speaking during a handing over ceremony, at Douse, Managing Director of the bank, Julian Kingsley Opuni, said: "The foundation of this is, on our 15th anniversary, we launched our Orange Impact Initiative which was focused on addressing some of the challenges within education in our country.

And we know that the key challenges are around accessibility, around affordability and also the quality of education. We thought we would try and address at least from the access side, good infrastructure to try and help the children as they learn.

This came about as a result of one of our own members of staff in our Wa branch who indicated to us that these are the challenges the children were undergoing here in Douse. So our staff came here and we did the assessment and we realised the children were using mud huts and also were under trees.

And so we thought we would make this our flagship initiative in our Orange Impact. So, we decided to construct a 6-unit classroom block for the community." On what the bank stands to gain from embarking on such corporate responsibilities, he explained that: "We're an integral part of the ecosystem that derives development. The challenges of the community in which you live should be reflective in the way you operate.

If the community develops, the bank develops. Fidelity is an indigenous Ghanaian bank primarily. And therefore, the things that matter to Ghanaians, matter to us. And if we don't create a positive impact around the foundational elements of developing any nation, then we also do not grow."

The Chief of the Douse community, Naa Bawa Seidu, in his speech expressed so much delight in the execution of the project and heaped praises on the management of the bank.

According to him, the construction of the 6-unit classroom block by Fidelity Bank at a hard-to-reach community as the Douse community was a testament to their genuine desire to help the education sector which he said is the bedrock for development.

He also lauded the move by the bank to not only stop at constructing the new primary school block but also went ahead to give the community's Day Nursery block an outstanding renovation to make it more befitting for the area.

He appealed to the Wa West District Assembly to fix the road in the area while also appealing to have the community connected to the national grid. In addition, he called for the introduction of a school feeding program in the school to serve as a catalyst in keeping pupils in school.

Head teacher of the school, Mr. Abubakar Mubarak, while thanking Fidelity Bank for the project said that the new classroom block would go a long way to help teaching and learning as they would no more be compelled to close anytime it threatens to rain as they used to do which he indicated was affecting the school.
