Vieri to get Agric College soon

The Upper West Regional Minister, Alhaji Alhassan Sulemana on Monday 7th January, 2019 announced that government will in this year establish an Agricultural Training College in Vieri in the Wa West District of the Upper West region.

He said the project, which will facilitate the training of agricultural staff will also help draw development to the area.
The Regional Minster said this at Vieri during the 2019 Seontaa Boor Festival.

The festival which is celebrated by the Daga-Wiile people in the area is the second of its kind and it’s aimed at promoting the culture of the Daga-wiile community as well as the development of the area.

Alhaji Sulemana noted that government was committed to developing the agricultural sector of the economy hence the need to equip people with technical know-how in agric in the area.

Alhaji Sulemana also announced some major roads earmarked for construction in the district this year. These includes the Wa-Vieri-Tanvare, Ga-Wechiau-Dorimon-Wa road, Wechiau-Balawa road and Kulmasa-Gurungu road all in the Wa West District.

The District Chief Executive, Mr Edward Sabo Laabiir called on the Daga-Wiile community to take advantage of the government social intervention programs such as the free senior High school to enrol their wards into school.

He announced the readily available large quantities of fertilizers and seeds supplied under the government flagship program “planting for food and jobs” in various warehouses across the district and urged the people to go into large scale farming to increase their incomes.

Reading the Member of Parliament speech on his behalf, Mr. Basiera sankaara the immediate past DCE for Wa West in the erstwhile John Mahama administration urged the Daga-wiile community to uphold the festival to serve as a medium of cultural transition from the old to the younger generation.

He also advised the youth against alcoholism and hard drugs which he said were inimical to their health.

He also appealed to the government to facilitate the early completion of some ongoing classroom block projects started by the previous government in the district to help facilitate teaching and learning.

The occasion was also used to award some students who excelled in the last BECE examination in the area.
