Mr Samuel Addai Agyekum, the District Chief Executive (DCE) said the initiative was human-centered and was not only targeted at stabilizing electricity in the area but also focused on alleviating poverty, enhancing livelihood development and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the side-lines of the meeting between the Districts local government leaders and the staff of Osmedplus Ltd, contractors for the project.
The DCE said the electrification expansion project was a joint partnership between the District Assembly, Osmedplus Ltd and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
It is part of the Districts social and economic policy to enhance small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) who depend on electricity and also improve lives of people in the rural communities.
Mr Sumaila Mohammed, the Contractor for the project and head of Osmedplus Ltd, said 12 communities out of the 25 communities in the district were expected to benefit from the initiative.
He said at the moment, five transformers have been approved for installation and three of the five transformers would be placed in the Kumawu township whiles the remaining two would be fixed in the other communities selected under the project.
He called for full cooperation from community leaders and members to enhance the success and sustainability of the project.
