Ghana Integrity Initiative holds anti-corruption forum in Offinso Koforidua

Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) is a non-partisan civil society organisation focused on addressing corruption.

Their vision is to produce a corruption-free society where all people and institutions act accountably, transparently, and with integrity.

In connection with their core mandate, GII held a forum at the Koforidua Pentecost Church in Offinso on July 29, 2020 to educate the public on the need to fight corruption even amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mr. Osei Bonsu was the lead facilitator of the program and a representative from GII. In his presentation, he touched on different forms of corruption, its effects, and the procedures one needs to follow in reporting corruption-related practices.

Adding to the latter, the Municipal Director of CHRAJ, Mr. Owusu Agyemang said that acts of impropriety could be reported to a Police Officer, a Chief, CHRAJ, the Attorney General Department, family head and other designated institutions.

In such instances, he continued, the informant becomes a whistleblower and enjoys some immunity under the Whistle Blower Act.

Mr. Agyemang finally entreated the public to have full confidence in the law and report corruptible acts to the appropriate institutions as the law is there to ensure their protection.

Koforiduahene, Nana Osei Bonsu was the Chairman for the occasion. In his remarks, he appealed to the people to observe Covid-19 safety protocols; hand washing, sanitizing, physical distancing, etc. According to Nana, all must stay safe to fight corruption.

Participants were members of the traditional council, religious leaders, some local artisans and selected heads of department.
