Atiwa East Assembly Holds Second Ordinary Meeting of the first session of second Assembly Meeting

The Atiwa East District Assembly held its Second Ordinary meeting of the First Session of the Second Assembly on Friday, 29th October, 2021 at the District Assembly Hall, Anyinam.At the meeting, the House approved the 2022 Composite Annual Action Plan, 2022 Composite Budget and the 2022 Fee Fixing Resolution of the Assembly.The House also considered the Reports from the Executive Committee and the Public Relations & Complaints Committee of the Assembly. The General Assembly further deliberated on a wide range of issues with a critical look at the Tourism sector of the District.The Presiding Member, Hon. Samuel Obeng Asamoah in his welcome address thanked members for making it to the meeting. He called for the co-operation and support of the General House for a fruitful meeting.

ADDRESS BY THE DISTRICT CHIEF EXECUTIVEThe District Chief Executive, Hon. Kwabena Panin Nkansah in his addressed to the House thanked Hon. Member for his successful confirmation. He called for the maximum co-operation of Hon. Members and all stakeholder to undertake his mandate for the next four years. He subsequently presented his address before the House.His address highlighted the progress made in the various sectors of the District:

GOVERNANCE & ADMINISTRATION1. Successful confirmation of District Chief Executive.2. Completion and furnishing of the two-storey office complex for the Assembly. This has necessitated the movement of the various offices of the Assembly to the new office complex and other Departments to the premises of the District Assembly.3. Most government institutions like Immigration, NLC, CHRAJ, NIA, NACA have all written asking for offices in the District.4. Passing of the recently held District Performance Assessment Tool (DPAT).5. Hosting of Regional Budget Hearing for the 2022 Composite Budget for Assemblies in the Region.HEALTH1. With regards to the update on COVID-19, a total of 157 suspected persons have been tested so far. Out of which 41 positive cases were recorded. All the persons involved have recovered.2. With respect to the COVID-19 vaccination exercise, a total of 313 vaccines were received by the District Health Directorate. 3,130 doses were administered to the public.3. Organization of health screening for schools in the District.4. Organization of child health week celebration. During the celebration children were given free treatment, Vitamin A supplementation and One on One engagement with counsellors.5. Organization of breast feeding week celebration in the District.6. Registration of 71,486 people for the mosquito nets distribution exercise. 7. Organization of Breast cancer awareness campaign.8. Establishment of 3 adolescent health clubs to support the fight against teenage pregnancy in the District.9. With the support of the MP, Ten (10) motorbikes and Five (5) Solar Laptops were donated to the District Health Directorate.

EDCUATION1. The District placed 3rd in the 2020 BECE Regional rankings.2. Registration of 1,311 students in the District for the 2021 BECE.3. Organization of five District Mock Examination to prepare students for the 2021 BECE. Two of the mock examination were sponsored by the Assembly.4. Organization of Back to School Campaign where training workshops were organized for officers and teachers and community sensitization exercises were carried out. The campaign brought back about 98% of children to school in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.5. Observation of National Maths Day to promote effective and efficient teaching and learning of Maths and Science subjects in the District.6. Organization of School Performance Appraisal Meeting (SPAM) to assess and review performance of educational standards and delivery in the District and also bring competition among the schools in the District as best performing Public and Private schools were given awards.7. Observation of Menstrual Hygiene Day to educate school children on menstrual health and hygiene.8. Planting of 200 trees towards the Green School Campaign.9. Screening of 360 Form 1 students of Sekyere SDA SHS.10. Support to NCCE towards the organization of District Reading and Spelling Bee competition. 2,108 students from 44 schools in the District participated in the competition. Justice Asamoah, JHS1 student from Annointed Child Prep. School in Anyinam emerged as the winner. He was presented with laptop, school bag, assorted books and certificate.

AGRIC & ECONOMY1. Under the Planting for Export and Rural Development programme, the District distributed 36,188 oil palm seedlings to 499 farmers and 6,500 coconut seedlings to 58 farmers from 18 communities. 2. Under the Planting for Food and Jobs programme, 3,724 kg of seeds and 1,626 (25kg) bags of NPK and 2,952 (litres) of liquid fertilizers were distributed to 1,058 farmers from 22 communities in the District.3. 506.85 hectares of maize farms belonging to 571 farmers from 28 communities in the District benefitted from the Fall Army Worm chemical distribution programme. There was 100% recovery of the 501.3 hectare farms that were affected.4. Under the Special Rice Initiative programme, 1,325 kg (covering an area of 33.13 hectares) were distributed to 38 farmers in 7 rice growing communities in the District.5. The Department of Agriculture trained (“Brighten the Corner where you are”) Women Association at Akyem Mampong to add value to their cassava produce by processing it into gari products.6. With the support of the Agric department, 13 rice, 13 vegetables and 15 oil palm farmers in the District were linked to processors and off-takers, for quick processing and marketing of their products.7. Department of Agriculture collaborated with Adasawase D/A JHS to implement the Food for Agricultural Schools (FOFAS) project. 0.3-acre land was planted with carrot and lettuce which over 90% have germinated.8. Acquisition of land at Sekyere for the establishment of rice market to boost rice production in the District

SOCIAL INTERVENTIONS1. The Social Welfare and Community Development Department was supported to train Abekoase-Subriso Women Group on the preparation of liquid soap and pastries.2. Disbursement of an amount of GH?22,988.20 to support 9 PWDs in income generating ventures.3. The Social Welfare & Community Development Department in collaboration with the Ghana Enterprise Agency organized a capacity building programme for 50 beneficiaries of the COVID-19 relief fund on business support scheme. They were trained on book keeping, registration of business, preparation of budgets, accounts and financial statements.4. Organization of child rights sensitization programme at Abakoase-Subriso to ensure children are protected from abuse, exploitation and violence.5. With the support of INBAR, 100 people in the District were trained on the use of bamboo to manufacture ladies bags and fan.

INFRASTRUCTURE1. Completion of the construction of DCD bungalow.2. Construction of the District Court at Anyinam is nearing completion.3. Construction of the Girls’ Model School at Anyinam is nearing completion4. Completion of the two semi-detach bungalow at Anyinam.5. Completion and commissioning of Akyem Mampong and Ahankrasu CHPS Compounds.6. Commencement of the construction works on the Truama Hospital at Anyinam and Mother & Child Block at Enyiresi Government Hospita

SECURITY1. Boundary dispute between Ankaase and Asamang Tamfoe.2. Resurgence of illegal mining activities3. Retirement of Dsp. Daniel Wiafe the former District Police Commander.4. Support to the Fire Service for the organization of fire safety sensitization programmes at selected areas in the District.5. Hon. Assembly Members are entreated to liaise with the Fire Service to organize anti-bush fire sensitization programmes in their localities as a form of preparation towards the hammattan season.
