Residents have expressed concerns that the footbridge is too long, compelling them to prefer the risk of jumping over the safety rails that separate the road from pedestrian pathways.
This behavior comes in the wake of a series of tragic accidents on the Adentan stretch of the highway, which has resulted in fatalities among pedestrians.
The alarming rise in knock-down incidents prompted a strong reaction from local youth, who organized demonstrations that included blocking the highway and burning tyres to draw the government's attention to their safety concerns.
In response to these issues, the government re-awarded the contract for the construction of footbridges to new contractors leading to its completion.
Since the completion, pedestrians have had a number of face-off with authorities as many of them have simply refused to adjust to using what is considered the safest means of crossing to each side of the road.
The ongoing situation highlights the urgent need for effective solutions to ensure the safety of pedestrians in the area and to encourage the use of designated crossing points.
