The theme for the programme was "Strengthening Local Government Sub - Structures and Showcasing Government Development Projects in Afigya Kwabre South District".

As part of the programme, forty-four (44) persons with disabilities were identified in the five (5) area councils and supported with start-up capital, support for the payment of medical and educational bills, procurement of bags of charcoal, hair dryers and accessories, shoe maker's leather machine, deep freezers and a tv signal detecting machine.

In all, close to GHC62, 000 was spent on income generating, medical and education bursaries for these 44 beneficiaries.

Speaking at the various area council centres, the District Chief Executive, Mr. Adu Poku Christian admonished beneficiaries to step up beyond their disabilities and use their God given skills and intellect to make a meaningful life for themselves rather than being a burden to society.

He added that on the part of the District Assembly, such individuals who are committed to doing something for themselves will always receive the needed support from the fund.

He also noted that beneficiaries should put into good use the support the government has offered to them to help improve their lives.

Mr. Cheslyn Nutsugah, the District Director of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, assured beneficiaries to be rest assured of the district's support to their requests as and when allocations are made on their behalf from the common fund.

He further reiterated that beneficiaries who are identified after a monitoring exercise, to be selling the support items or redirecting funds for a different purpose will be blacklisted from accessing future support from the fund.
