Ga North Assembly confirms MCE

The Ga North Municipal Assembly has confirmed Madam Gertrude Ankrah, the Government nominee as the Municipal Chief Executive for the area.

The 11-member Assembly unanimously gave Madam Ankrah a yes endorsement, which represented 100 per cent votes.

Madam Ankrah in an address called for unity and collaboration among the assembly members, the Presiding Member, the Coordinating Director, the Member of Parliament and all the staff to undertake development of the municipality.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, she said, her first focus was to ensure that the Ofankor Hospital was commissioned to reduce the burden of patients who had to travel far for medical attention in Accra, Nsawam and Amasaman.

Madam Ankrah said the opening of the hospital would also create employment opportunities for the people in the area to prevent the rural-urban migration, especially by the youth and women.

She expressed gratitude to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for her appointment to the Assembly and gave the assurance that she would carry out her duties diligently to the satisfaction of all and sundry in the municipality.

Mr Moses Anim, the Member of Parliament for the area said the Ga North Municipality Assembly was going to have control over its own common fund to undertake ongoing projects and new ones and called on the assembly members to avoid political differences so as to assist to facilitate the development of the new municipality.

Mr Ishmael Ashietey, the Greater Accra Regional Minister who chaired the function commended the assembly members for their support towards the creation of the new municipality and asked them to further solicit the assistance of the people in the development of the area.
