Oforikrom PWDs receive support

Some 19 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the Oforikrom Municipality have received items worth Thirty-three thousand, two hundred Ghana Cedis (GHs 33,200.00) as their share of the District Assembly’s Common Fund.

Beneficiaries went home with popcorn machines, cylinders and ingredients, deep freezers with stabilizers, industrial machines such as; sewing, knitting, welding and grinding machines, second hand towels, sponges and under wears, assorted materials and tools as well as funds for educational and medical support as requested by the beneficiaries.


The Oforikrom Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Abraham Kwame Antwi, presenting the items stated that the government is committed in supporting PWDs from the District Assembly’s Common Fund and the Assembly remains resolute in ensuring that the various guidelines for the disbursement of funds to deserving people is followed through to the latter.


Addressing beneficiaries in a brief but colorful event, He expressed his interest in issues concerning PWD’s and further stated that disability was not tantamount to inability as perceived by many.

However, he added that PWD’s are endowed with talents and skills that when harnessed could help them be self-reliant and productive.


Mr. Antwi further hinted that, plans are far advanced to engage with some Non-Governmental Organizations established across the globe with the likes of MasterCard foundation- with the aim of collaborating with them to be able to reach out to a wider population who are physically or mentally challenged and train them to be well equipped with a skill to empower them and improve on their living conditions.
