TECHIMAN N: 20,000 cashew seedlings distributed to farmers
The District Chief Executive of Techiman North, Peter Mensah distributed 20,000 crafted cashew seedlings to 250 farmers in the Techiman North District.

The initiative is in line with the president’s policy for rural development under the planting for export and industrialization.
At the forum for the distribution, the DCE cautioned farmers to take this project seriously for their own benefit and the country at large. He said Techiman North District has adopted cashew farming as one of the major cash crop that would help boost the local economy.
He said farmers will receive the seedlings free of charge as well as technical support to enable them get the full benefit of the project. He went further to explain that, technical estimation was made and for every two (2) acres of the cashew planted, farmers will make yields of not less than GH?18,0000 annually, and this will boost their income and eradicate poverty.
The District Director of Agriculture for Techiman North District, Mr. Paul Tolong said the crafted cashew seedlings is an improved variety over the local breed and have shorter period of maturity compared to the local breed.
He further said, with the improved seedlings one can be sure of improvement in the yields and good harvest because the improved seedlings have undergone series of technical analysis before it was adopted.
Nana Kwasi Daniel, the chief of Atresu and also the National best cashew farmer for 2015 applauded government for this initiative, saying the initiative will help most farmers in the district and the country at large, and stressed that farmers only need seedlings and technical advice and that exactly is what has been catered for by government.
