He noted that oil palm is cultivated on large scales in the district and with over 25 products that can be derived from it, it is just appropriate to make good use of it to turn the economic fortunes of the people in the district.

The DCE disclosed that as authorities in the district, they are considering two factories including oil palm refinery as well as soap factory which also uses some by-product of the oil palm as the raw material. “Even if we are lucky to have the two factories we will appreciate it because there are potentials for both factories to do well in the district”, he added.

Mr. Boasiako was optimistic that at least one of the factories would be established since it it success will help transform the fortunes of a lot of people, adding that one area of concern is unemployment which can be addressed to a large extent with the factory coming into operations. He wasconfident many people will benefit, because apart from companies that are into large scale cultivation of oil palm, there are also many individuals with oil pal plantations.

“We will encourage and provide incentives like seedlings and others to more people to go into the plantation of oil palmto feed the factories and when this is achieved, it is possible to expand to deriving more products from the oil palm that will be additional benefit to the people in the district”, he added.
