Madam Adisa Tassa, the Ga Central Municipal Director of Education, who made the call, said the Directorate was dedicated to improving education in the municipality and would continue to be a beacon of inspiration for both educators and learners alike.

The reading competition was held between Ablekuma Circuit, Anyaa Circuit and Chantan Circuit at the Odorgonnor Senior High School in Accra.

The children competed in spelling in Ga and Twi, charade, news reading, reading, mother and child, among others while there were cultural performances by all the circuits in the municipality.

At the end of the competition, Chantan Circuit came first, Anyaa Circuit, and Ablekuma Circuit second, and third respectively.

Madam Adisa Tassa said the festival was a momentous occasion which highlighted the remarkable progress the Directorate had made over the period.

“Over the years, we have witnessed a significant improvement in learning outcomes, particularly at the lower primary level in the National Standard Test conducted by National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) in the Basic Education Certificate Examination at the regional level,” she said.

Madam Tassa said the Directorate was faced with the cost of transportation, which had remained a significant obstacle for many officers, affecting their ability to effectively monitor schools and provide timely report.

“Other pressing need is the expansion of infrastructure to accommodate the growing number of learners in the schools,” she said, and appealed to institutions and benevolent individuals to help address the challenges.

Madam Sandra Odei Acheampong, Ga Central Municipal Head of Monitoring and Supervision in a welcoming address called parents to motivate and support the students to learn to read.

She said reading, a medium of learning, exposed the children to critical thinking and vocabulary acquisition necessary for their academic development.

Naa Dawa I, New Gbawe Manye, in a closing remark, commended the Directorate and teachers for the programme and expressed the hope that the next competition would be expanded to include other circuits.
