Upper Denkyira East Assembly fail to elect PM

The newly inaugurated Upper Denkyira East Municipal Assembly failed to elect a Presiding Member to steer its affairs for the next term

Two members of the house Mr. Joseph Obeng Ahenapong and Mr. Nicodemus Aboagye who vied for the position failed to secure a two-thirds majority of the valid votes cast to win the seat.

Mr Ahenapong polled 22 votes whiles Nicodemus Aboagye also polled 19 out of the total valid votes cast respectively.

Earlier, the Central Regional Minister, Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah who stood in for President John Dramani Mahama appealed to members to see the development of the entire municipality as paramount.

He advised them to carry out their duties devoid of partisan politics.

In all 41 members made up of 29 elected and 12 Government Appointees were sworn in by Mr. Festus Nukunu, a magistrate at Dunkwa-On-Offin.
