KETU S: Tidal wave victims receive relief items

Officials from the Regional National Disaster Management Organisation in the Volta Region have deplored relief items to victims of the tidal wave disaster at Blekusu in the Ketu South Municipality.

Mr. Divine R. K Bosson, the Volta Regional NADMO Coordinator said items including 500 pieces of student mattresses, 80 bags of rice, 500 mosquito net, blankets, mosquito coils, 500 plastic plates and cups have been provided for distribution.


   

 

He said though government is doing its parts, NGOs churches, individuals and other organisations should come on board to help alleviate the sufferings of the people.

 

About 1700 people from 273 households who have been displaced and rendered homeless in Blekusu are now temporarily living in classrooms.

 

 

The Municipal Chief Executive, Edem Elliot Agbenorwu assured the people that Amandi Company Limited which was carrying out the sea defence project will soon move back to site to continue the defence project aimed at protecting the coast line. 

 

 

Meanwhile a number of ministers whose roles are connected with the disaster including the Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Letsa, Works and Housing Minister, Mr. Samuel Atta Akyea and Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Mrs. Elizabeth Afoley Quaye and other officials including the respective Municipal Chief Executive have on different occasions vsited the affected areas to commensurate with the victims, and assess the extent on damage which will inform the kind of assistance that will be needed for them.
