The Sustainable Development Goals are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate, environmental degradation, prosperity, and peace and justice. The 17 Goals which interconnect are targeted to be achieved by 2030.
In the Ketu North Municipality, not only has efforts been made to sensitize the citizens on the SDG Goals by printing and pasting the goals on some vantage points, but more importantly, the Assembly has linked all its developmental programmes to these goals.
The Ketu North has also adopted the “No Hunger” goal as its main focus and is working assiduously at achieving this, the MCE has said.
In view of this, the Assembly has completed a warehouse under the ‘One District, One Warehouse’ project to help ensure proper storage of farm crops particularly during bumper harvest and make it available during the lean farming season.
The MCE also noted some interventions the Assembly has embarked on to empower the people in the municipality in the agriculture sector where 16,000 palm seedling have been distributed to people to revive palm production in the municipality. This would be followed by mango seedlings which also has high potential in the municipality.
These intervention are hoped to inure to the benefit of the farmers, by raking in more income into their pockets thereby reducing poverty
Mr. Avorgbedor also disclosed that in line with eliminating hunger, a number of people have also been supported under the ‘Planting for Food and Jobs’ programme to cultivate various crops. And with the municipality being the leading producer of rice in the Volta region, they looked forward to harnessing on their strength in this regard to kick hunger and poverty out of the municipality, he stated.
He said the next thing is to move the education to senior high schools in the municipality as well as take advantage of every social gathering to bring people up to speed with the SDGs and convince them to support efforts in that direction.
