He expressed his joy at the extent and quality of interest farmers are showing in cashew farming as championed by the Nana Addo led government.
He explained that having Chiefs, Assembly members, and other critical stakeholders of the Municipality competing for seeds and seedlings alike in the 2018 planting season has motivated the Assembly to increase the quantity this year.
He told farmers at a gathering at the Babile Agric Station where the distribution started that the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufu Addo was committed to ensuring that cashew becomes the cocoa of the north, hence the free distribution of cashew seeds and seedlings to farmers and potential farmers.
He also took the opportunity to caution farmers against indiscriminate bush burning since, according to him, the same could pose a danger to the effective growth of the cashew plants.
In all, some one hundred and twenty thousand cashew seeds and seedlings are being distributed to farmers across the Municipality. The leadership by example talk is seeing practical reality in this cashew farming promotion.
The Paramount Chief of Lawra himself, Naa Puowelle Karbo III, and Mr. Martin Bombaire who started their cashew farms in the 2018 planting season are already moving their institutions into the program.
They have each asked for and have been allocated a minimum of one thousand seedlings for distribution to all chiefs and Assembly members across the paramountcy and Municipality.
All the five political zones of Lawra have equally received substantial allocations of the seeds and seedlings.
