Lawra is not immune to fall army worm invasion – DCE warn farmers

Farmers in the Lawra District in the Upper West region have been advised to remain vigilant over the sign of the fall army worm invasion of their farms.

District Chief Executive for Lawra, Martin Bomba-ire who gave the advice at an assembly meeting said he has already summoned the District Director of Agric to brief him and the house on measures taken to contain the invasion of this notorious army worms as well as distribution of allocated fertilizers in the district.

 

In a related development, the DCE underscored the importance government has attached to agriculture hence the implementation of its agriculture flagship program “Planting for food and Jobs" as well as the distribution of subsidized fertilizer initiative.

 

 

He said the district received NPK (15-15-15), 2,060 bags; NPK (25-10-10), 4,505; Sulphate of Amonia, 1,600 bags; Urea, 1,030 bags; and Yara Legume, 914 bags totaling Ten thousand, one hundred and nine bags among other supports.

 

According to him, his expectation is that, the inputs will result in a higher yield to increase the district food stock and improve income levels of farmers and their families.
