He urged Nana Akata not to compete for power with the chiefs and rather work with them for the rapid development of the District.

Mr Amenowode said the DCE had a lot of "fence mending to do" and asked him not to be confrontational in times of challenges and rather remain tactical.

The Regional Minister tasked Nana Luis to concentrate on the rapid development of the District and not his comfort and that of his friends.

He called on the traditional authorities to forge unity of purpose by joining hands with the District Assembly to develop the area.
Nana Akata expressed his gratitude to President John Atta Mills for the confidence reposed in him and called for support of the traditional authorities and people to ensure rapid development of the District.

The District Assembly was carved out of the Jasikan District by former President John Agyekum Kufuor through Executive Instrument (EI) 11 of 2007 and Legislative Instrument 1910.

The District was however not inaugurated with others created because of the dispute over which town should be the capital.
An Accra High Court however declared Nkonya Ahenkro as capital of the District early this year.
