POLITICS: NDC Women’s Wing celebrates Mother’s Day with Accra Psychiatric Hospital

The National Democratic Congress Women’s Wing has celebrated Mother’s Day with the Accra Psychiatric Hospital with the donation of assorted items.

The items which were targeted at women and children at the facility included 20 cartons/boxes of cooking oil, 100 pieces of cloth, 60 pieces of towels, 18 packs of toilet rolls, 5 pack of sanitary pads, 25 bags of sachet water, 6 cartons of Tuna, 25 bags of rice, 4 boxes of Samaritan’s purse, 5 boxes of detergent, 2 boxes of soap, 40 loaves of bread, 22 boxes of bottled water and 1 bail of cloths.

Addressing the media during the presentation, Nana Oye Lithur, who was the immediate past Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection stated that the gesture said being women they are always concerned with the welfare of women and children and the vulnerable, and that the gesture is to express their mother’s unconditional love to the female inmates at the hospital.

According to her, the group which comprised of former female appointees of the NDC government, female Members of Parliament, present and past as well as women holding key position in party have taken it upon themselves to respond to the needs of females at the hospital.

Madam Betty Mould Iddrisu who was also present at the function assured that the NDC ether in government or opposition will not renege on championing the wellbeing of women and vulnerable adding that this would not be the last that the hospital will get support from them.

Madam Ama Boadu, Head of Public Relations Unit at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital who led the hospital staff in receiving the items commended the group for their efforts.

She said it is very instructive that women in the facility were remembered on a special occasion as Mother’s Day, adding the items will go a long way to improve the welfare of the inmates.

She also appealed for more supports to keep the facility running effectively.

The group also toured the females’ wards and made donations to individual inmates at the wards and fraternized with them.

Other who were present included Faustina Nelson, Valerie sawyer, Sherry Aryitey, Ambassador Molly Anim Addo, Hajia Zainab, Hon. Queenster Sawyer, Hon. Doyoe, NDC Women Organizers, Hon. Zenator Agyeman Rawlings, among others.
