A 95 acre cocoa farmland owner wins Adansi North District best farmer award

The Akwamuhene and Regent of Bobriase, Nana Kwame Ntim has been awarded the 36th Adansi North District Best Farmer Award.

Nana Ntim who has 95-acre farmland of cocoa, a 30-acre Rubber Plantation including over 5000 poultry birds among many others has been engaged in farming for the past 30 years.

The Adansi North District marked the Farmers' Day under the theme ‘Ensuring Agribusiness Development under Covid-19 -Opportunities and Challenges’ in honour of the outstanding farmers in the District.

Presenting the award, the Adansi North District Chief Executive (DCE), Honourable Kusi Kwaku Eric said the National Farmers' Day celebration was initiated in the year 1984 by the Government of Ghana to appreciate farmers’ immense contribution toward the country's economy and honour them as well.

Mr. Kusi announced that the Adansi North District together with the other six Districts has been selected to benefit from SOLIDARIDAD a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) project to aid farmers in the production, processing, and marketing of palm oil products.



He added that the District will soon benefit from Ghana- Japan JICA Rice sponsored Project which seeks to provide technical assistance and good practice training for rice farmers to enhance yields and income. He, therefore, urged the youths especially, to invest more in rice production to the advantage of the District in the years ahead.

The DCE also mentioned that, the District Assembly has started the process of nursing one million cocoa seedlings for farmers in the District for no fee and that, the Assembly is focused on supporting small scale farmers to improve yields to feed the growing demands of the District and added that, plans are in place for the production of two hundred thousand palm oil seedlings for distribution to farmers in the next farming season. He appealed to the farmers to adopt new technologies to embrace Agribusiness in supporting the growth of the country.

The District Agric Director, Mr. Amoh Koranteng added that one thousand two hundred and sixty-eight (1268) farmers have benefitted from the three thousand eight hundred and thirty-two (3832) chemicals supplied by the Government to fight the fall armyworm whereas 7650kg of maize and 1500kg of rice have been distributed to farmers.

Mr. Amoh Koranteng commended the Government saying that, through the Planting for Food and Jobs initiative, farmers are able to feed the
country and export some as well as creating jobs for the youths.

Ohene Gyan Anane who is 58 years and Paul Nyamaa, 50 years won the 2nd and 1st runner up respectively.
