The festival which involved a contest between all educational circuits across the district seeks to promote reading culture in both English and local language among learners in the lower primary.
The students participated in a reading competition in both English and Dangbe, word construction, poetry and rich traditional and cultural displays.
The festival, which was organized under the theme "exploring life through reading” afforded candidates who qualified at the inter-schools level to compete with each other at the circuit level and fight for the grand prize.
In her welcome message, the District Director of Education, Madam Harriet Lomotey, said that she remains committed to its action plan of inculcating the habit of reading in pupils of all basic schools across the district.
She added that the event is aimed at raising the standards of learning especially among pupils in the district’s public schools.
“Reading festival is all about encouraging every Ghanaian child to love reading; children must have special interest in reading in English especially and other Ghanaian languages.
We in Shai Osudoku are poised and in readiness to ensure that every school going child is able to read and write”, she added.
Meanwhile, this year’s contest was keenly contested by three circuits including Dodowa East, Dodowa West and Doryumu. Also some chiefs, Assembly staff, PTA executives and parents were also present during the festival.
