SHAI-O: Assembly commissions 4 new classroom blocks at various communities

The District Chief Executive of the Shai-Osudoku District Assembly Daniel Akuffo last Thursday commissioned four (4) classroom blocks within the district at separate locations.

The classrooms included 3-unit classroom blocks, 5-unit classrooms with an office, 8-unit classroom blocks with an office and store and 3-unit classroom blocks with an office at Asutuare Estate, Osuwem, Ayenya and Dodowa Methodist respectively.

Also, as part of the good relationship the District has with investors, the Japanese Embassy in Ghana funded a 5-unit classroom block and the district Assembly single- handedly constructed a 3-unit classroom block at Ayenya; thus summing up to the 8-unit classroom block at Ayenya.

In her speech, the District Director of Education, Mrs.Elizabeth Awoonor- Williams, said "We all know that education requires the collective efforts of all stakeholders of which the District Assembly and other institutions are part.

She extended her sincere gratitude to the DCE, Hon Daniel Akuffo for putting up the structure to ease and reduce the class size in the school and also to the Japanese company for their support and funds.

"We are confident that this will greatly contribute to the promotion of quality education in the school and the district as a whole",she said.

She assured that they will do their best to ensure that the facility is put into a profitable use. She challenged the teachers and headmaster to put the new classroom block to good use by improving results and encouraged them to exhibit proper maintenance culture in the use of the facility.

In his speech, the Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Mr. Himeno Tsutomu said,On behalf of your friends from Japan, I'm pleased to send the message today for the opening ceremony of the project for the construction of school blocks at Ayenya D/A basic school which was funded under the Japan Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GAGHSP).

I'm pleased because this project seeks to address the problem of basic education delivery which is in line with Japanese Oversea Development Agency policy, with its focus on human security.

The government of Japan recognizes the importance of quality learning environment for a child's education and we are supporting the development of a child's education in this area in accordance with the national education policy which seeks to strengthen the capacity of basic education system by investing and mobilizing resources and allocating them equitably and ensuring its efficient utilization.

A total amount of USD89, 437 was granted to Shai-Osudoku District Assembly to construct school blocks in Ayenya and its environs and surrounding communities.

He believed that the classroom will improve education and provide secured and comfortable environment to ensure that basic education is delivered adequately and on time to the children of Ayenya and its surroundings.

The District Chief Executive expressed gratitude to the teachers and people of Ayenya for trusting them and holding on to them as they fulfilled their promise of putting up classroom blocks for them.

He assured them that there is more to come at other venues and few of these places are Adomanya, Odumse, Odumase and Abonya.

He also encouraged the students to study hard and make use of their new classroom's.The project being seen today is through the hard work of the District Planning Officer, Madam Edith E. Lawuvi.

"I want to express my deepest thanks to the Japanese Embassy, the Planning and Work Departments of the Assembly. All we want from the headmaster and teachers of the school is a massive improvement in the B.E.C.E results, because they have been given a more conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning, he said".

The student and teachers of the school thanked the Japanese Embassy and the government of Ghana for their kind gestures towards them and promise to put the structure to profitable use.

The headmaster expressed delight at such a gesture by the Japanese Embassy and the assembly. He also use the opportunity to complain of cases where the school had to close down because of the rains and also of circumstances where he had to drive back to the school after the rain to check if everything was in order.

“But now that we have new classrooms that issue has come to an end. I'm much grateful to the Japanese embassy and to the District Assembly", he said.

The headmasters, Headmistress and teachers of the various schools expressed great gratitude to the Assembly for coming to their aid with new classrooms in this COVID-19 era.

With the new wave of making education accessible to everyone, most children now find themselves in school and since there were not enough classrooms they either run the shift system or squeeze all the children into one classroom to teach them, but with the commissioning of the new classroom blocks, there will be more space for the students and even teachers.

This will not only save the children from getting overcrowded and picking up small infections but also create conducive environment for teaching and learning and the protocols of COVID-19 will be observed as well.
