In an interview with Ghanadistricts.com, Mr. Adjetey expressed deep concern over the increasing number of youth engaging in the use of illicit substances such as cannabis, “RED,” “BLUE,” “Colorado,” as well as other items like superglue.
He noted that some youths have also resorted to mixing pharmaceutical drugs “to get high”, a development he described as alarming and danger to the municipality and the country as a whole.
“Drug abuse is becoming a nuisance, especially among the youth in Teshie,” the MCE stated. “In fact now super-glue is being mixed with other drugs just to high people”, he added.
The MCE emphasized that the Assembly has already identified several drug hotspots and is actively working on strategies to engage with those involved in order to desist from such activities.
“When it comes to drug abuse sometimes you don’t have to use force, you need to engage them and let them know the sort of negative effect it is posing of for society”, he explained.
As the Homowo festival approaches, the Assembly plans to use the festive season as an opportunity to reach out to the youth and guide them away from drug use.
“We are on it and we are on them, especially during this Homowo period, we are trying to engage them, bring them together, and help them change their ways,” Mr. Adjetey assured.
