The MCE decision was arrived at after a broader consultation with all stakeholders including the Municipal Health Emergency Committee and Traditional Council among others. The decision also became necessary after taking a tour to monitor activities at various market centres.
Speaking in an interview, Mr Offinam Takyi noted with displeasure about the fact that traders were not adhering to the social distancing and wearing of nose mask precautionary measures outlined by the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service.
He again stressed that the Assembly’s taskforce had been empowered to ensure that Municipality does not experience its usual vibrant Tuesday market till the virus is completely eradicated in the country.
He however stated that the normal markets would be operating.
He described the decision as a step in the right direction as most traders, especially those from outside the Municipality were being recalcitrant in complying with the directives of traditional authorities and the MUSEC Task Force.
He thus implored every individual to adhere to the directives and other protocols to avoid contracting the deadly Coronavirus.
