The PWDs were presented with some startup items and cash from their share of the District Assemblies common fund to enable them establish their own businesses and make a living.
In a short address Madam Gladys Zuuri, the Tano South Municipal Director of Social Welfare and Community Development stressed that the move forms part of the government’s policy to invest in the people which will go a long way to transform the economy.
She said the aim was to help them establish their own businesses to help discourage them from going onto the streets to beg for alms.
On his part, Collins Offinam Takyi, the Tano South Municipal Chief Executive, in his address, noted that “it is an obligation on the part of the government to support people living with disability.”
“it is against this background that the government through the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development has distributed the items to them”, he added.
He thus charged them not to allow their condition to discourage them from pursuing their dreams but rather work hard to become useful to society.
