The visit formed part of efforts to assess the level of construction, engage contractors on project timelines, and determine when water supply will begin flowing to residents of Wenchi and surrounding communities.

During the tour, the MCE and her team held a strategic meeting with the project contractors and engineers led by Resident Engineer Ransford Addai and Contractor Bernard Twumasi of ASPAC International Construction Ltd. The technical team delivered a detailed PowerPoint presentation outlining the infrastructural components of the dam and their specific functions, after which they conducted the MCE and her entourage on a guided inspection of the facilities.

The Wenchi Water Dam is a major infrastructure project featuring a robust embankment system with a core wall to prevent seepage, abutments, cutoff and parapet walls, and a dam gate to regulate water flow. The reservoir is supported by a spillway to prevent overtopping, a sluice system for controlled water release, and a drainage gallery for maintenance and safety monitoring.

The project also includes advanced safety and operational systems such as stilling basins to prevent erosion and sensors to monitor water pressure, seepage, and structural stability.

Beyond the dam structure itself, the project boasts a comprehensive water supply system, including large transmission pipes, an intake structure, a pump station, a fully equipped water treatment plant for sedimentation, filtration, and chlorination, as well as a power and energy house to ensure uninterrupted operations.

Impressed by the scale and quality of work completed so far, Hon. Gloria Opoku Gyamfi urged the contractors to expedite the remaining works to ensure the timely delivery of potable water to residents within the catchment areas.

In response, ASPAC International Construction Ltd assured the MCE that all outstanding payments due them have been settled by the current government and reaffirmed their commitment to completing the project in the shortest possible time.

When completed, the Wenchi Water System Project is expected to significantly improve access to safe and reliable drinking water, enhance public health, and support socio-economic development across the municipality.
