The items were given out based on requests submitted by the beneficiaries themselves, in line with the Assembly's efforts to respond directly to the specific needs of persons with disabilities rather than issuing generic support packages. The gesture forms part of the District Assembly's continued use of the Disability Common Fund to empower persons with disabilities economically and improve their quality of life.
Speaking at the event, the DCE admonished the beneficiaries to put the items to their intended use, urging them not to sell or dispose of the items but to use them to build sustainable livelihoods. He noted that the support was meant to promote self-reliance and reduce the economic challenges faced by persons with disabilities in the district.
He added, calling on beneficiaries to serve as good ambassadors of the Assembly's support by making judicious use of the machines and equipment given to them.
For his part, the Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, Hon. Yaw Frimpong Addo, commended the District Assembly for the initiative, describing it as a commendable step towards an inclusive society where persons with disabilities are not left behind in the district's development agenda.
Later in the day, the DCE and his entourage presented 1,500 dual desks to selected schools in the district to help address the acute shortage of desks confronting many basic schools in the area. Head teachers and School Management Committees who received the desks on behalf of their respective schools expressed gratitude to the Assembly, noting that the intervention would significantly improve the learning environment for pupils who had previously had to sit on the floor or share desks.
The DCE reiterated the Assembly's commitment to continue investing in both social protection and educational infrastructure, describing the two gestures as part of a broader vision to leave no one behind in the district's development.
