This comes in the wake of government’s pledge to make education accessible to all especially parents and guardians who are unable to support their wards in the tertiary institutions to help push them through the academic ladder.

The privileged students made up of 40 males and 36 females who qualified to be enrolled on the scheme was selected from about 150 applications received at the assembly to pursue various courses in the tertiary institutions in the country. However, about 30,000 students are beneficiaries of this year’s scholarship scheme nationwide.

The government through the Scholarship Secretariat has seen to the decentralization and disbursement of funds under the District Scholarship Scheme; a move many have applauded since it has given many students at the local level the chance to be part of the opportunity created. This cements the president’s vision of creating opportunities for all.

Madam Gloria Temmah Gambrah, the Oforikrom Municipal Chief Executive who presented the awards to the privileged students, revealed that the initiative is a core achievement for the Akuffo Addo led government. According to her, bringing the award scheme down to the locals has help widened the intake.

The MCE stated “I have had all my education in this country and in terms of educational scholarships, you will only hear of it after the scholarships are awarded to people. This is because the scheme was not decentralized and transparent enough. Thanks to the president Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, things are transparent now”. She expressed this with a lot of passion, since as a mother, feels the shoes of these now privileged students.

She was grateful to the President especially for according such large number of students within the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly, such privilege.

The MCE congratulated the students and urged them to make good use of the support given them by government. She said “Your academic performance is very important because you must make very good use of this opportunity. Learn hard and make your communities proud”.

Some beneficiaries of the scheme also applauded the government for the initiative and pledged their readiness to do their best in their various tertiary institutions for the future benefit of the country.
