Juaben Municipal Assembly spends GHs 97,749.00 on PWDs

The Juaben Municipal Assembly in the Ashanti Region has within the past one and half year spent GH 97,749.00 from its Common Fund to procure vocational items, tools, equipment and also provide medical assistance, educational support for 85 Persons with Disability (PWDs) to improve upon their standard of living in the Municipality.

Mr. Kodjo Ansah-Sem, the Municipal Chief Executive who said this during the Meet the Press series held at Juaben, the Municipal capital, established that 3 percent of the Common Fund was spent on the upkeep of persons with disability.

According him, an amount of GH 50,762.00 has also been disbursed to 665 Livelihood Empowerment against Poverty (LEAP) beneficiaries from 27 communities within Juaben Municipality since Assembly was curved out of the then Ejisu Juaben Municipal.

The MCE further explained that, the beneficiary schools under the School Feeding Programme has increased from 22 schools in 2018 to 27 schools in 2019. The number of pupils benefitting from programme had also increased to (9,328) in 2019.

Adding that, a total number of (4,012) students are benefitting from the Free Senior High School policy in the two SHS within the Juaben Municipality namely Juaben Senior High and St. Sebastian Senior and Technical School at Adumasa whiles a scholarship packaged of (GH 50,664.31) was awarded to 28 needy, but brilliant students in the Municipality.

The MCE said a total of 390 youth were engaged under Nation Builders Corps initiative (NADCO) across the six modules that have enhanced to reduce the high rate unemployment ratio in the Municipality over the last one and half years.

On physical projects, he said Assembly has executed numerous projects since it was carved out of the erstwhile Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Assembly on 15th of March 2018.

These include Construction of CHPS compound at Esaase and New Koforidua, Construction of 1No. 6-seater water closet and 4-Unit Urinal at Juaben Methodist School, construction of 16-seater water closet toilet facility at Juaben Abesim and Achiase-Odumase, Rehabilitation of Urban Council at Juaben to provide office space for Ghana Education Service and Environmental Health Department.

The rest were the construction of 1No. Mechanized Boreholes at Abesim, Achiase-Odumase, New Koforidua, New Bomfa and Yaw Nkrumah, construction of 1No. 6-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities at Juaben Model School, SDA Primary School, Juaben, Akronwi Primary School and Nobewam Primary School, Construction of Girl’s Dormitory at both Juaben and St. Sebastian Senior High School.

On roads, he mentioned the ongoing construction of Juaben town roads and few reshaping of Juaben-Dunmakwai feeder road.

He indicated that roads networks in the Juaben Municipality are in deplorable state since only a few communities have motorable road network and this has affected the development of the Municipality, he stressed.

Mr. Bediako Brempong Asare, Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD) in his welcoming address said the programme was a directive from the Ministry of Information with the objective to create a platform for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives across the countrywide to account their stewardship to the citizenry through the media.

Media persons present took turns to ask questions and made contributions that bothered on the poor road network, security challenges, education, flooding, agriculture, lack of office space and inadequate logistics in the Municipality.

The programme was chaired by Nana Kwaku Yeboah Kankam II, Juaben Traditional area.

Nana, therefore, commended the government for prudent policies and introduction of programmes and initiatives geared towards creating jobs and improving livelihoods of Ghanaians and thanked the MCE for his tremendous achievements within the short period in office.
