Obuasi East PHEC meets council of churches ahead of Easter festivities

The Obuasi East District Public Health Emergency Committee (PHEC) on Wednesday 24th March 2021 met Leaders of the Council of Churches to brief them on the COVID-19 cases recorded so far and measures that can be put in place to control the spread of the virus during this year’s Easter festivities.

The Disease Control Officer for Obuasi East District Mr. Solomon Adu-Hene who briefed the house on COVID-19 situation said so far the District has recorded 90 cases in the month of January, 2021, 125 in February whiles March saw a decline in the number of cases to 24 with 5 being active cases in the District.

Touching on Covid-19 vaccine which was rolled out on Tuesday 2nd March 2021, he said a total of 8,769 people took the COVID-19 vaccine with 31reactions.

Madam Delphine Gborgblorvor, the District Director of Health revealed that the country will start a mass vaccination for all health workers on Thursday 25th March, 2021.

She seized the opportunity to demystify the conspiracy theories generated towards the COVID-19 vaccine and also encouraged the general public to take part in the exercise since the vaccine is safe.

The District Coordinating Director Mr. Eric Aboagye- Mensah appealed to the Church leaders to help in educating their members on the COVID-19 protocols to help curtail the spread of the disease. He also asked them to sensitize their members on the need to take the vaccine.

On his part, the Obuasi Police Commander, DSP Martin Assenso cautioned the Churches against organising outdoor Crusade during the Easter holidays. He said such programs are in breach of the COVID-19 restrictions.

Again, he assured the Leaders of the Churches that his Taskforce are working hard to ensure that the public adhere to the COVID-19 protocols.

The Chairman of the Christian Council of Churches Obuasi East, Rev. Amoleh Cudjoe said the Churches are satisfied with efforts made by the government since the outbreak of the Pandemic and the huge resources pumped into it to ensure the safety of Ghanaians.

He reiterated calls on all Churches to abide by the COVID-19 protocols to help win the fight against the disease to ensure the safety of their Church members.
