Asuogyaman DCE visits exam centres

Samuel Kwame Agyekum as part of his commitment to ensure the educational progress of Asuogyaman District visited some schools in the district to monitor and ascertain the progress of candidates writing the West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The schools visited were namely Akwamuman Senior High School (SHS), Anum Presbyterian SHS, Boso Presbyterian SHS and Apegusu SHS.

At Akwamuman SHS, out of Seven Hundred and Forty Six (746) candidates who registered to write the WASSCE examinations, Four (4) were absent. Anum SHS registered Six Hundred and Thirteen (613) students with present, while Two Hundred and Forty Seven (247) candidates were registered at Boso Presby SHS.

The NPP Constituency Chairman for Asuogyaman District Dr. Akyea Darkwa who was part of the entourage suggested to the school authorities to write to West African Examinations Council (WEAC} to have the centre the school picks its exams papers from, to be changed and brought closer to them in order to avoid unnecessary delays during the WASSCE examinations.



At the time of visit to Apegusu SHS, candidates for the General Knowledge in Arts (GKA) paper were about to write their paper.

Here it was revealed that One Hundred and Sixty One (161) candidates were registered to sit the WASSCE examinations with none of the students absent.

Out of the schools visited, Apegusu SHS was the only school that run a Single Track System.


There were a few observations made by the DCE and his team when the Headmaster took them around. Among them include large class size, limited spaces in the boys’ dormitory and a make shift block had to be used by the boys as a dormitory.

Some classes were also being held under trees due to the lack of enough classroom blocks.

The DCE and the Constituency Chairman assured the school to do their best to have these issues addressed.



Mr. Samuel Kwame Agyekum expressed appreciation to the school’s authority for the efforts they put in to ensuring the exams are conducted in a structured manner.

Accompanying the DCE during the visitation and monitoring were the NPP Constituency Chairman Dr. Akyea Darkwa, the District Director of Education Mrs. Theodora Kutorkor Entee, Elizabeth Any Dogbatse SHS Coordinator,Innocent Maunya Azomu PRO for the District Education Office and the District Information Officer for Asuogyaman District Kojo Frempong-Boadu.
