DCE urges leaders to fight for the rights of children

District Chief Executive for Asante Akim North, Mr Francis Oti Boateng, has appealed to chiefs and community leaders to be proactive and responsive to the protection of the welfare and rights of children in their communities.

He said protecting the rights of the children and paying attention to their needs was a must to defend their future growth and development.

Mr Francis Oti Boateng said this at a multi-stakeholders’ forum at Agogo, where he emphasized that community leaders had the responsibility to ensure that children were properly brought up.

He said the programme which was under the theme “End child marriage now; it takes us all”, was structured by World Vision Ghana to talk on the issues of early child marriages in the district and communities and develop strategies to reduce the threat.

Mr Oti Boateng applauded World Vision Ghana for its management role in advocacy to end early girl-child marriages in the district and said the Assembly would support its partnership with it to ensure an end to the menace in the area.

In a conversation with ghanadistricts.com, the DCE said, the Assembly was already implementing initiatives that required bringing pregnant girls back to school after delivery. The aim is to ensure that all girls continue and finish their education.

The Cluster Manager of World Vision Ghana of Sekyere East District, Mr Joseph Kwogyenga, said this programme was to seek out approval from all stakeholders to end early child marriages while promoting high opinion for the right of children in rural communities.
