‘Make good use of funds given to you by gov't’- MCE to PWDS

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly, Mr. Mordecai Quarshie, has urged Persons with Disabilities (PWD’s) to make good use of funds given to them by government to enhance their livelihoods so that they don’t go back to the streets to beg for a living.

He said this when the Assembly, presented an amount of GHs 53,000.00 to 51 PWD’s in the Municipality.

The MCE noted that the money is to minimize poverty among PWDs particularly those outside the formal sector of employment and also enhance their social image through dignified labour.

He added that the money is to support the income generating activities of PWDS as a means of economic empowerment and also to provide educational support for children, students and trainees living with disabilities.

Mr. Quarshie indicated that the fund will help build capacity for organizations for PWDs to enable them to advocate and assert their rights and undertake awareness raising and sensitization on disability issues, adding that the government had the physically challenged at heart and as such, some percentage of money is reserved in the Common Fund of the Municipal Assembly to take care of their needs.
