Kintampo Department of Agriculture receives motorbikes

The Kintampo North Department of Agriculture has taken delivery of sixteen (16) motorbikes to aid in the implementation of agricultural policies such as ‘Planting for Food and Jobs’, ‘Planting for Export and Rural Development’ as well as ‘Rearing for Food and Jobs’.

The support comes from the Canadian Government under the modernizing Agriculture in Ghana initiative in collaboration with the Government of Ghana, the Ministry of food and Agriculture, and the Kintampo North Municipal Assembly.

At a brief ceremony held at the forecourt of the offices for the Kintampo North Department of Agriculture, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kintampo North, Michael Sarkodie Baffoe handed the motorbikes to the Municipal Agric Officer, Mr. Simon Yambon in the presence of the Assistant Director of the Kintampo North Municipal Assembly, Mr. Mohammed Sasewo, Mr. Mohammed Alhassan of the Local Government Service, Agric Extension Agents and the media.

The MCE indicated that it was the wish of the government to take agriculture to the next level and thus creating food sufficiency. He said as a result of this, the government is determined to provide farmers with the needed technical and input support and boost the agriculture sector which is a great pivot of Ghana’s economy.

Mr. Sarkodie indicated that, revamping the agriculture sector has necessitated the birth of policies that are unprecedented to drive growth in the sector. He said all the investments in the sector were a recipe for the greater policy of Ghana beyond Aid.

He again noted that, the motorbikes were to aid Agric Extension Agents in the discharge of their duties in their various operational areas to boost the sector in the Municipality and Ghana at large. He called for proper maintenance of the bikes and cautioned the beneficiaries to acquire valid ridding licenses whiles promising to aid in the registration of the bikes.

The MCE also brought to light plans to boost rice production in the Municipality and instituting an award scheme for professionals in the municipality and asked all and sundry to give off their best in their various roles.

The Municipal Director of Agric Service in the Kintampo North Municipality, Mr. Simon Yambon welcomed the king gesture and thanked the government and the Municipal Chief Executive for facilitating such remarkable aid in the discharge of their duties. He promised to ensure proper maintenance of the bikes for longevity in their life span.

Mr. Simon Yambon also revealed that, with the support of the Assembly, 1,000 cashew seedlings are being nursed and would be handed over to the Assembly for distribution in August 2019.

He however called for the renovation of the housing quarters accorded his outfit which he referred to as deplorable and asked for extended accommodation to his staff.

Mr. Ntuboah Christopher, Agric Extension Agent for Busuama expressed his delight with the arrival of the motorbikes and recounted how it was difficult to reach farmers in his operational area due to a lack of a means of transport and indicated his belief that all that was in the past.
