The meeting afforded the opportunity to discuss some national and community issues as well as sought opinions on projects and programmes needed for the people within its jurisdiction.

The meeting was aimed at accounting to stakeholders what revenue generated by the assembly was used for.

Speaking at the meeting, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the area, Hajia Salma Mohammed Adam-Kuta underscored the essence of Town Hall meetings, adding that outcomes of such important meetings are not taken for granted by officials of the Assembly.

She noted that, although the municipality is facing numerous challenges, a lot has been done to help mitigate these challenges.

“So far we have renovated some school classroom blocks, constructed new school buildings, constructed some toilet facilities as well as health centers and with the help from government few constructions of some roads have been made in the municipality,” she said.

She highlighted challenges such as sanitation, youth unemployment, lack of Senior High Schools (SHS), deplorable roads among others while insisting that work is being done to accelerate development regardless of the recent economic crisis.

“I know we are in challenging times, but we cannot also stop the provision of basic things that will aid the development and improve upon the lives of people, let’s all try and do our bid,” she pleaded.

She therefore called on all to support the Assembly to meet its target by paying fees due the Assembly for development.

On her part, the Director of Social Welfare, Mrs Lydia Winifred Mensah-Bonsu explained that the unit’s core mandate is to give relief to the marginalized and vulnerable within the Municipality.

She added that her office had since played a critical role by identifying delinquent children on the streets and providing them with quality education in order to prevent them from engaging in all forms of social vices.

The Municipal Environmental Health and Sanitation Director, Mrs Josephine Gawu also charged residents to clean their frontage and be responsible citizens.

Meanwhile, residents were also afforded the opportunity to share their ideas, grievances and expectations on various issues of interest that were raised and addressed by various resource persons.

In attendance were the Presiding Members, Assembly Members, Council of Zongo Chiefs, Heads of Security Services, Heads and representatives of Departments or Institutions, Unit Committee Members, residents amongst others.
