Kwaebibirem District observe silver jubilee

The Kwaebibirem District Assembly climaxed the week-long celebration of its 25th anniversary with a grand durbar at Kade at the weekend.

The District Chief Executive, Mr Emmanuel Osae in his address said within the past 25 years, the district had grown from a rich rural society to what is now one of the most innovative, friendly and focused developing district in the Eastern Region.

Major towns like Kade, Asuom, Pramkese, Takyiman and Abaam are fast becoming urbanized and there are more people and economic activities than it used to be 10 years ago. He said water, schools and health provisions had seen improvement in terms of expansion and quality.

Mr Osae said sustaining development was chosen as the theme for the celebration to give meaning to a key commitment of the District Assembly.

Our commitment to sustainable development shall persist and we shall ensure that development in the district meets the needs of the present generation and the generation yet unborn, he said.

The Member of Parliament of Kade, Mr Ofosu Asamoah said, though the district had attained some progress, much more could have been achieved and called for greater unity of purpose between the MP, the DCE and District Assembly Members.
Mr Baba Jamal , Member of Parliament for Akwatia and Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, called for an end to chieftaincy dispute which had reared its ugly head and said such problems should be settled by the chiefs themselves.

He called on all Ghanaians to be actively involved in the development of their district and said, since Kwaebibirem had great potential in agriculture, greater attention should be given to its development for the good of the district and the nation as a whole.
