The purpose of the programme was to inform the people of the closeness of the coronavirus to them as three (3) persons have been confirmed of being infected by the virus. Again, the council has realized that Mamfe lies between Amanokrom and Akropong where the infected people were located.

In addition, Mamfe strategically serves as a transit point for both vehicular and passengers who ply and travel to Koforidua, Kumasi, and beyond.

In his submission, the MCE lauded the Area Council especially Eric Asare Opare and Samuel Amoah Opare who were the Assembly Members of the town.

He said others should emulate their shining example to complement the efforts the government is putting in place to curb the pandemic. He said the people should not take this lightly at all as the municipality has recently confirmed a third infected person.

He advised that as soon as anybody has the symptoms, he or she should not hesitate to draw the attention of the health personnel. He also pleaded that people should desist from stigmatizing anyone with the virus and that the virus does not discriminate and anybody could be infected at any point in time.

He stressed that these are hard times and all and sundry should assume that the country is at war because we are combatting a common enemy (coronavirus). He advised everybody to make the wearing of face mask, washing of hands, and social distance protocols a habit. He ensures that much as all adhere to the directives given then it is possible the pandemic could be curtailed.

The MCE made a clarion call to the people to rally behind the government to fight the disease rather than making politics out of it. He recalled the measures His Excellency the President has put in place in his recent broadcast to the nation to make life worth living for every countryman.

He said these were made for people to stay at home if they do not have any business in town. He said water bills have been absolved by government and electricity bills have been drastically reduced to cushion customer’s April, May, and June bills.

Health workers took time to educate the gathering on the pandemic. As a matter of expediency, the people have been asked to remain at home after 8 p.m. to desist recalcitrant ones from grouping in the evening to play draft, cards, and at drinking bars in the evening at obscure places.
