Kintampo South District Assembly donates to PWDs

The District Assembly through the department of Social Welfare and Community Development (SWCD) has distributed items worth three percent (3%) share of the common fund meant for People Living with Disabilities (PWD’s) in the district.

A total of ninety six (96) PWDs benefited from the three (3%) of the Common Fund.

Items presented include; fridges, fufu machine,sewing machine, iron sheets, wheelchairs, cutlass sharpening machine, tiling machine and battery charging machines. Others were also given seed capitals to start up their businesses.


The District Chief Executive, Mr Opoku Nyame in an address to the beneficiaries said the government over the years have made sustained effects in supporting people living with disability and the district assembly through the department of Social Welfare and Community Development has released some items representing three percent(3%) of the Assembly’s common fund to be distributed to people living with disability in the Kintampo South District.

He urged the beneficiaries not to sell the equipment but put the distributed items to good use in order to help them gain financial freedom and not continuously be dependent on their families and government.

Also in attendance was Mr Alexander Gyan, Member of Parliament for Kintampo South. In his address emphases that he acknowledges the role PWDs play in the socio-economic development of the district and the country for that matter and indicated that the government has over the years increased a scheme to allocate 3% of the Assembly’s Common Fund solely to serve the needs of PWDs and affirmed that the allocation for disabled persons is governed and urged all PWDs to register and join the association of disabled so as to benefit from the fund.
