The market happens to be the main source of income for women and the youth in the municipality and its neighboring communities.

According to them, during the rainy season, the whole market turns into a "galamsey" field, with mud covering the entire market. And when that happens they don’t have any choice but to close; pack their goods and go back home.

Some women who spoke with Ghanadistricts TV said, perishable goods and water unfriendly goods end up getting destroyed.

And during the season of sunshine, the market women have to stand in the sun until the sun sets to sell their goods.

They are therefore calling on the government, traditional rulers, MPs, MCEs and other stakeholders, to come to their aid to do something about the deplorable state of the market.

Speaking with Ghanadistricts TV, The Municipal Chief Executive of Mfantseman Municipal Assembly, Mr. Ike Lord Ennu confirmed the construction of 72 lockable stores by the Coastal Development Authority (CODA) at the “Asabee” market in Mankessim to help improve the plight of traders in the area.

He added that the Fixed Asset Unit of the Assembly was making frantic efforts to ensure equitable distributions of the stores to the market women who are in need of them.

The MCE charged the Market women to rally behind him and the Assembly to enable them deliver on their mandate.
