Ave Dakpa gets new youth association for development

The Paramount Chief of the Ave Traditional Area and President of the Ave Traditional Council, Torgbui Nyamekor Glakpe V has stressed the need for the youth of the area to fully abstain from meddling in chieftaincy and land issues in the area, saying such actions can affect their resolve to unite their peers and efforts for development.

Torgbui Nyamekor Glakpe V was speaking at a ceremony to officially inaugurate the Generational Thinkers of Ave Dakpa (GTAD) at Ave Dakpa in the Akatsi North District of the Volta Region.

The new group is expected to organize and mobilize all the citizens and residents of Ave Dakpa both at home and abroad for the development of the Akatsi North District. The event was witnessed by a number of Chiefs and Queen mothers from the area as well as some Ave citizens based in Accra and Kumasi.

Torgbui Nyamekor Glakpe V noted that the inauguration of GTAD marks yet another important milestone in the forward march of Ave Dakpa.

He congratulated GTAD and its executives for the initiative and urged them to consult the previous groups such as the Ave Dakpa Youngsters’ Club in order to avoid any shortfalls that led to its collapse.

The Paramount Chief urged the executives to abstain from activities such as chieftaincy and land disputes that can divide their front as leaders and ultimately their members.

Speaking on the topic, ‘Promoting Sustainable Development in Ave Dakpa; the Role of Stakeholders’, a retired educationist from the area, Professor Johannes Awudza charged the executives of GTAD to use the association to lobby duty bearers, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and well-meaning individuals and institutions across the country to promote the interest and development of the area and its citizens.

Earlier in a speech read for him by the Secretary of GTAD, Mr. Francis Kemeh, President of the Association, Mr. Tony Quist said it is their collective desire as citizens of the area to see Dakpa in unity, peace, and development within the comity of towns, cities, and districts within the country. According to him, GTAD would liaise effectively with the District Assembly, Unit Committee Members, NGOs, and the traditional authorities to push for the attainment of its goals and vision.

Mr. Quist called on all well-meaning citizens from the Ave Traditional Area both at home and abroad to get on board towards developing the area. ‘We need everyone to join us irrespective of our religious or socio-economic status as well as gender or political affiliation. It is in unity and peace that we can easily win that fight against poverty, hunger, starvation, and above all, the Covid-19 pandemic that has bedeviled our society today’, he emphasized.

Presiding Member (PM) of the Akatsi North District Assembly (ANDA) and Assembly Member (AM) for Ave Dakpa, Hon. Patrick Ahiabu commended GTAD and its membership for the initiative and urged the executives to remain committed to achieving their aims and objectives.

The occasion also saw the induction into office of the new executives of GTAD and a nine-member steering committee that would work closely with the leaders to achieve the vision of the Association. The induction ceremony was performed by the Parish Priest of the Ave Dakpa R. C. Church, Rev. Fr. Victor Ashiagbor. He charged the executives not only to be focused on their vision but also set achievable targets in the discharge of their responsibilities.

GTAD has Mr. Tony Quist as President with Mr. Angel Kodzo Fiagbey as his Vice. Mr. Francis Kemeh is Secretary while Ms. Victoria Boitey occupies the position of Deputy Secretary. Messrs Godwin Ayisu and Richard Alato are Organizers of the Association while Ms. Jennifer Apawu and Ms. Emmanuel Patu hold the positions of Treasurer and Deputy Treasurer respectively.
