The Central Regional Coordinating  Director,  Mr Kwame Oppong,   has called on Metropolitan, Municipal and District  Assemblies (MMDAs)  to ensure that  development  projects  in their districts were commensurate with the funds  provided.

 He said a lot of resources including the district development fund, composite budget and the district assemblies’ common fund had been provided to enhance the development needs of the districts across the country.

Mr Oppong  said this  in a speech read for him at a day’s  National Development Planning  Commission Consultation  on  the Draft National Medium  Term Development Policy Framework for 2014-17  workshop  at Cape  coast.

The conference, organized by the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC)and  attended by Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives, District Coordinating Directors, district  planning officers, representatives from Trades Union Congress, Traditional Authorities, security  agencies   and church leaders was to collate views  on the  Draft National Medium Term Development Framework for 2014-17.

He said the workshop was appropriate since it would help MMDAS to make inputs that would provide the requisite projects to meet the demand needs of their people.

Mr Oppong asked that similar workshops be organized at the district level to collate more ideas that would make the people at the grassroots to also accept and appreciate the document as their own.

Dr Isaac Frimpong Mensa-Bonsu, Director at NDPC, said the technical aspect of the document  had been done  and it was imperative for all Ghanaians  to make  contributions to the policy document  to make it  their own,  adding that  the document  was the guide for the development of the nation in the next  four years.

He said in the next four years the nation had to move its development to a higher level and that this could only be achieved if the appropriate policies and programmes were implemented.

He said the time had come for the nation to revolutionize its agriculture  by using science and technology to develop the agricultural sector, adding that in the next four year it would be important to also improve upon the infrastructure needs of the country to meet the demands of the global world.

Mr Edu Yeboah, the Regional Representative of the NDPC, commended the Commission  for moving to the regions, saying this would  enable the NDPC to get information and ideas that would help develop an all-inclusive policy document which would  be beneficial to all.

The National Development Planning Commission was established in 1992   under Act 479 and 480 as an institutional framework for the development planning of the country.
