CAPE C: Charity Akottiah, 47, honoured Regional best farmer

About 150 farmers including a physically-challenged were yesterday rewarded in Effutu, a suburb of Cape Coast in the Central Region for their hard work and contribution to agricultural growth in the country.

About 150 farmers including a physically-challenged were yesterday rewarded in Effutu, a suburb of Cape Coast in the Central Region for their hard work and contribution to agricultural growth in the country.

Madam Charity Akottiah, 47, emerged the overall 2013 best farmer in the region and was presented with prizes including a motor-king cycle, spraying machine, cutlasses , wellington boot, wax print, soaps, sidalco liquid fertilizer, flat-screen television and radio-sets.

However, awards were also presented to winners from other districts which includes wellington boots, spraying machines, cutlasses mattresses fans among others.

This year’s farmers day celebration was under the theme “Reducing Post-harvest Losses for Sustainable Food Security and Nutrition.”

Ms Priscilla Arhin, Metropolitan Chief Executive for Cape Coast congratulated the awardees for their continuous effort in the country’s hopes alive and also for keeping the nation’s economy going.

She further urged them to adopt to modern methods of farming and cooperate with their agricultural extension officers in their localities to benefit from their expertise and also minimize the risk of post harvest losses.

Other dignitaries who were present at the occasion include the deputy Central Regional Minister, Hon. Queenstar Pokua Sawyer, Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, Ebo Barton Oduro, District Chief Executive for Abura Asebu Kwamankese, Mr. William Ata-Mends, DCE for Ajumako among others.
