District Chief Executive (DCE) for  Kwaebibirem District in the Eastern Region, Emmanuel Reginald Aboagye Osae, has cautioned headmasters of all public schools to stop collecting unapproved fees from the final year students who will be sitting for the 2014 Basic Education Certificate Examination(BECE) in the district or face criminal charges.

“I wish to send a word of caution to all schools charging unapproved fees to immediately put a stop to it or face criminal charges” he cautioned.

The DCE gave the caution at a press conference held last Tuesday at Kade, the District capital.

According to him, a visit to some junior high schools in the district had revealed that, heads of the schools were charging unapproved fees ranging from GH50.00 to GH140.00 instead of the approved fees of GH40.00 by the district directorate of education.

Mr. Osae, explained that, government has subsidized the registration fees in other to cushion parents and for that matter any move to charge unapproved fees will be detrimental to parents.

He therefore directed the district directorate of education to furnish him with a full report on the subject matter within seven days, adding that those who have been identified will be handed over to the police for legal action.

The district director of education, Mr. Godwin Addo, answering questions from the media after the  press conference, said, his outfit will be organizing an emergency meeting with all the heads to find solution to the problem.
