Sanitation improvement has taken centre stage in the work of the Akwapim District Assembly with a number of measures being carried out.

The Assembly is currently undertaking district wide dislodging of all public toilet facilities and rehabilitating the ones that have structure defects to make them more suitable and convenient for use.

The measure according to the District Chief Executive, W. K. Afari Gyan is to among other things to prevent open defecation that poses danger to the general public since it can lead to diseases outbreak.

So far the assembly has completed 12 of such public toilets including Kitase, Gyankama and Ahwerase.
 
Other areas the assembly is focusing on is construction of major drains in a number of communities to enhance proper flow of waste water to prevent excessive erosion which destroys the vegetative and landscape of the communities.
