The Ga South Municipal Assembly has begun the process to secure a new location to resettle the more than 500 residents of Kojontor left homeless, after a private developer razed down their houses.

The Municipal Chief Executive for the area, Jerry Akwei Thompson, said they have identified a new site for the relocation of the residents and have begun the process of acquiring it.

The residents were left homeless after the private developer, assisted by a team of armed police men destroyed their homes about two weeks ago.

The residents, including women and children are temporarily lodging in the Obom-Kojontor school where they only pass the night and pack out at dawn to allow students of the school access to their classroom.

The MCE told Joy News because the intervention into the plight of the 500 residents was unplanned, it will adversely distort their already meagre budget for the year.

He has refused suggestions to collaborate with the private developer, Mr Mac McCarthy, who has reportedly expressed remorse at the situation of the victims of the demolition exercise he initiated, and has promised to assist in anyway possible.

According to the MCE, the Assembly would not seek his assistance because he acted insensitively in the first place.

In his view, having acquired the court order, Mr McCarthy should have contacted the Assembly first before proceeding with demolition.
