The District Chief Executive for the Lambussie Karni District, Clement Benin has expressed the confidence of a boost in food security at the district this year.
This he said will be achieved on the basis of an enhanced farming season which was experienced this year, reflective in a consistent rainfall and the abundance of the government’s subsidized fertilizers made available to farmers in various farming communities under the district.
The DCE who emphasized this in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com on the state of agric development in the district noted that the condition has largely created a bumper harvest in agric yields for farmers.
Meanwhile, he underscored the need to rehabilitate some key dams which had become mal-functional and ineffective for farmers to fully access it for agric related activities.
He for instance mentioned that Piina dam broke-down in 2008, and since then it has become difficult for the Assembly to initiate any support in rehabilitating the facility, because the project when pushing it will be expensive and cost effective.
But this notwithstanding he said, the Assembly has called on the Irrigation Development Authority (IDA) and the Savanna Accelerated Development Authority to come to the aid of the district to reconstruct their dams for the purpose of improving agric.
